| Rafael Small founded CarGari in 2019 when he left his well-paid job in tech to pursue his business ownership dream. From the get-go, he went “all in.” The idea to start CarGari was born out of the need to improve his own personal experience. For more than 10 years, Rafael worked as a technology consultant, which meant 100% travel. If you travel regularly for business, you know what that means: hotels, restaurants, and rental cars. Rafael tells us that during his hectic travel life the worse pinch-point was the rental car pick-up and drop-off. Sounds familiar? Keep reading. Rafael kept thinking “there’s got to be a better way” – more value, better customer service, and perhaps even a way to provide a financial opportunity for the entrepreneurial minded. He launched into extensive research, analysis and focused queries. After doing the due diligence, Rafael concluded that he had an idea worth pursuing. Fast forward to 2023 and CarGari is headed to Denver International Airport! The company will be one of two peer-to-peer rental car companies at DIA but the ONLY local one. Check out this story in the Denver Post. The other company (who shall not be named) has had all the advantages and benefits that are still a struggle for Black and other founders of color to access.
